SMBC Market Data Management Analyst in New York, New York


SMBC's Corporate Service Group is seeking to hire an experienced Data Market professional to manage and monitor all market data activities within SMBC Americas Division (AD) and its subsidiaries. The position requires an understanding of the market data industry, contract and licensing processes and market data uses, with a balance of client facing skills and technical understanding. The candidate will be responsible for all contract management; budget management; licensing and data management; marketing, education, and training; compliance adherence; and policy and governance management for SMBC AD and its subsidiaries.


Contract & Product Management:

o Develop and manage a centralized contract repository of all contracts

o Manage contract approval process, in coordination with the Vendor Risk Management processes

o Lead contract negotiations efforts and contract renewals

o Serve as a point of contact for internal and external clients

o Ensure products and services meet defined requirements

o Partner with internal users to identify and solve license and data quality issues

o Establish SLAs for service delivery (quality and timeliness)

Budget Management:

o Develop and maintain overall market data budget

o Develop and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual budgetary status reports for varying departmental and subsidiary requirements

o Work closely with each department head and subsidiaries to plan future budgets

o Manage and perform all invoice approvals, billing cost allocations both within SMBC AD departments and subsidiaries, as well as to Tokyo Head Office

o Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual invoice approval process, including submission to VAG for timely payment

o Help achieve reduction in market data vendor count through consolidation analysis resulting in cost savings

Licenses and Data Management:

o Develop and maintain a central license and data inventory tracking system

o Administer and maintain the internal license/data inventory systems (SOAR and SAM)

o Work closely with each market data provider to administer licenses and data feeds

o Manage all users’ enquiries/concerns/questions/requests

o Manage the allocation of licenses to maximize contracted license counts

o Monitor license usage to make sure licenses are being used and used in accordance to the contracts’ policies.

Marketing & Training:

o Schedule market data marketing, education, and training requests and events

o Work closely with each market data vendor to educate and market those products and services within SMBC

Compliance Adherence:

o Manage the communication monitoring policies, processes, and procedures

o Manage the reporting requirements and maintain all reviews and sign-offs required for compliance mandates

o Implement and maintain Data Market internal control standards, including timely implementations of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by internal auditors

o Ensure compliance of all relevant internal audit findings and recommendations as well as adherence to external regulatory requirements

Policy & Governance Management:

o Develop Policy and Procedures to manage the number of licenses for each division/department/group

o Work closely with the Data Governance Team on initiatives to:

  • Streamline the incoming data feeds so that there are no overlaps.

  • Implement best practices

  • Gain economies of scale

  • Improve methodologies, policies, and standards 


· Experience working with market data companies such as Moody’s, S&P Capital IQ, Bloomberg, Reuters etc.

· Knowledge and experience working with various data management systems, tools, and applications

· Experienced contract negotiator

· Possess an innate consensus oriented management methodology

· Ability to understand overall market data system functionality

· Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or related discipline

· Quick learner, detail oriented, and creative problem-solver

· Ability to work independently
